One thing that surprises, especially during summer, is to see kids working everywhere. Cafe ‘, retails, tourism, supermarkets, fairs, pr, etc.
I spoke with a 16 years oldCanadian girl, who currently works part-time in a bakery close to home, to understand a little ‘more’ about this phenomenon. She says it’s quite common for teenagers to work. It’s a pride earn for personal expenses, such as clothing, concert tickets, phone bills, but also set aside money for university or other dreams. At 16 years ols is not anymore difficult to find work as at 14-15, when is not easy to demonstrate sufficient maturity and experience, so it’s most common to work as an apprentice through family friends. Anyways, before finding a job, is necessary to be armed with thirty CVs and knock at the door of all the downtown shops, but there’s always a chance, especially in June to cover the summer, in September / October for some evenings and at least one weekend day, and then in view of the Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and other important holidays there is always a need for more staff.
In addition to setting aside money, this girl likes to work ’cause in this way she gains experience and learn to communicate with customers and employers. Also it can prove to be a mature, proactive girl, and while being in contact with adults she gets a lot of tips that can help her in the future.

Una cosa che sorprende, soprattutto d’estate, e’ vedere ragazzini che lavorano ovunque. Cafe’, negozi, turismo, supermercati, banchi delle fiere, pr etc.
Ho parlato con una studentessa Canadese di 16 anni che al momento lavora part-time in un forno vicino a casa, per capire un po’ di piu’ riguardo a questo fenomeno. Dice che e’ piuttosto comune per gli adolescenti lavorare. E’ un orgoglio guadagnare per le spese personali, come vestiti, telefono, biglietti dei concerti,  ma anche mettere da parte i soldi per l’universita’ o sogni nel cassetto. A 16 anni non e’ piu’ difficile trovare lavoro come lo era a 14-15 anni, quando non si puo’ dimostrare sufficente maturita’ ed esperienza, e magari si trovava lavoro come garzone solo tramite amici di famiglia. Certo, bisogna sempre armarsi di una trentina di curriculum e bussare la porta di tutti i negozi del centro prima di trovare un lavoro, ma c’e’ sempre la possibilita’, soprattutto a giugno per coprire il periodo estivo, a settembre/ottobre per alcune sere e almeno un giorno del fine settimana, e poi in vista del Giorno del Ringraziento, Natale e altre festivita’ c’e’ sempre bisogno di piu’ personale. Oltre che mettere da parte dei soldi, a questa ragazza piace lavorare perche’ cosi’ guadagna esperienza lavorativa e impara a comunicare con clienti e datori di lavoro. Inoltre puo’ dimostrare di essere una ragazza matura che si da da fare, ed essendo a contatto con adulti, ottiene un sacco di consigli che la possono aiutare nel futuro.
