LGBTQ for kids and singers! LGBTQ per ragazzi e cantanti! [en]

Watching Glee I learnt that in north America there are several kind of Clubs in high schools. When I talked with Mercedes, a few month back, I then asked her about the new clubs that are in her school. Surprisingly she named the LGBT(Q) club (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) or Gay-straight alliance -There are a wide number of articles on the net if you’d like to learn more-, where people learn all about this topic, to be open to this reality and don’t treat it as a tabu’ or to avoid bulling, which have become a serious problem in the last times.

I didn’t know about LGBTQ associations myself. Hearing her, I wish I had the luck of her generation that grows in an environment that that doesn’t bully about it, but supports and learn at the same time. The acceptance about gays (and all sub category) here in Canada is one of the points of major admiration I have for this Country.

I take the chance to talk also about some beautiful advertising that TD bank does. They either support the pride week, or simply focus on any kind of services, as retirement plans, mortgages or investments.

Anyways, I am lately looking to join a choir, and I pass a incredible list of choir in my current area (Toronto), until i crossed the one of Singing Out, a LGBTQ choir.  WHAT?!! I had to hear them. I checked their youtube page, with melodic songs like Halleluja, to funny ones like It’s raining man (performed by only man of course!). Oh gosh, that was really funny, way different than all the other adult choir, mostly treating sacred music, which is not the way I like to sing. If I sing, I sing modern music, or at least classics pop-rock songs. But other than my personal singing preferences, well, it blows my mind to know that the LBGTQ community organizes a 100 people choir (since 2 decades already)! Oh, Canada! Really. You never stop to impress me.

Guardando Glee ho imparato che in Nord america ci sono diversi tipi di club per attivita’ riguardanti hobbies e passioni nelle scuole superiori. Quando parlai con Mercedes qualche mese fa, le chiesi quali nuovi club ci fossero nella sua scuola. Fu una sorpresa apprendere che si erano recentemente formati club di alleanze Gay-Straight (non gay) e club di LGBT(Q), acronimo di Lesbiche, Gay, Bisessuali, Transgender ed Eccentrici- ci sono un numero enorme di articoli a riguardo su internet che vi invito a esplorare per approfondimenti-, dove i ragazzi apprendono questo tema, per divenire aperti a questa realta’ e non trattarla come un tabu’, o per evitare episodi di bullismo, che e’ divenuto un problema piuttosto serio negli tempi recenti.

Non sapevo nulla riguardo le associazioni LGBT(Q). Ascoltandola, ho invidiato la fortuna della sua generazione, che cresce in un ambiente che impara a non deridere i gay, ma li supporta ed impara allo stesso tempo. L’accettazione riguardo ai gay (e tutte le sottocategorie) qui in Canada e’ uno dei punti di maggiore ammirazione che ho per questo Paese.

Colgo l’occasione per parlare di qualche bellissima pubblicita’ che fa una banca locale. Sono sia per supportare la settima dell’orgoglio Gay, oppure per focalizzarsi su qualsiasi tipo di servizio, come fondi pensione, mutui o investimenti.

Comunque, fatto sta che ultimamente stavo cercando un coro a cui aggregarmi, e ho controllato una lista incredibile di cori nell’area dove vivo al momento (Toronto), fino a quando ho incrociato quello di Singing Out (e’ un gioco di parole fra cantare e dichiararsi gay), un coro della comunita’ LGBTQ. COSA?!!! Dovevo sentirli assolutamente! Sulla loro pagina di Youtube hanno canzoni di ogni tipo, da quelle piu’ melodiche come Halleluya, a una versione canatata da soli uomini di it’s raining man (piovono uomini). Oddio! Divertentissimo! E cosi’ diverso da tutti gli altri cori adulti che ho visionato, che fanno principalemente musica sacra, che non e’ proprio il tipo di musice che mi piace cantare abitualmente. Se canto, e’ musica moderna, o per lo meno classiche pop-rock. Ma a parte i miei gusti personali, beh, mi ha entusiasmato sapere che la comunita’ gay organizza un coro di circa 100 persone da gia’ due decadi!Oh, Canada. Davvero. Non finisci mai di stupirmi.

gli zombie in citta’: Zombie walk [en]

if you happen to be in Toronto around the 20 of October, every year you might cross a horde of zombies in the street! Better: you might be a zombie as well and join this crowd right downtown, under the light of day! It’s all real, and also well organized, zombies have a website where they organize their walk and also give tricks of how to dress-up and look perfectly rotten and dead! Indeed Zombie walk involve local schools of make-up art, to paint all aspiring zombies!

Not in Toronto? There are other towns that participate in similar action in the month of October, you might still be able to see one, or get ready for next year!

Se capiti a Toronto attorno al 20 di Ottobre, ogni anno potresti incrociare una folla di zombie in strada! Ancora meglio: potresti diventare tu stesso uno zombie e aggregarti a questa folla nel centro della citta’, sotto la luce del giorno! E’ tutto vero, e pure ben organizzato, gli zombie hanno un sito internet dove organizzano il loro itinerario, e danno pure consigli su come apparire marcio al punto giusto e ben decrepito! Infatti la parata degli Zombie coinvolge scuole locali di trucco, per trasformare tutti gli aspiranti zombie!

Non sei a Toronto? beh, ci sono altre citta’ che partecipano ad eventi simili durante lo stesso mese di Ottobre, potresti essere in grado di vederne uno, o magari prepararti per il prossimo anno!

Zucche intarsiate: Pumpkin carving! [en]

This activity takes place mainly in October. We are racing at work, at home, organized picnics, school etc ….. I mean, it ‘s time to take those pumpkins and carve them! Usually it is organized as a team and the results are often surprising.This year especially, pumpkin harves went exceptionally well, indeed it’s possible to buy huge size ones!

The pumpkins carved are object of pride and then, good or bad, they all end up on the steps of front of house, to tell the kids who can knock to “trick or treat”.

Questa e’ un’attivita’ che si svolge soprattutto in Ottobre. Ci si fanno gare al lavoro, a casa, picknick organizzati, scuola etc….. Insomma, e’ il momento di prendere quelle zucche e di intarsiarle! Di solito ci si organizza in team e i risultati sono spesso sorprendenti. Quest’anno poi la raccolta delle zucche e’ andata particolarmente bene ed infatti se ne trovano di gigantesche!

Le zucche intarsiate sono oggetto di vanto e poi, belle o brutte, finiscono tutte sui gradini d fronte a casa, per dire ai bambini che qui possono bussare per fare “dolcetto o scherzetto?”.

raccogliere le Mele: Apple picking! [en]

One of the activities at the beginning of the autumn season is to go and pick apples, and in the absence of these, you can’ always pick raspberries, autumn strawberries, sunflower seeds, peppers and pumpkins! Of course, the availability change from year to year, as the harvest varies on the weather that we have had in previous months. But anyways, many of these places have activities, to do for the youngest, like a small zoo with llamas and goats, adventures to do on hay bales, or for the more adventurous there’s the chance of do the maize in the corn field, while solving puzzles! However, you usually go in a weekend with family or friends, there are several places that offer to harvest apples (and here we are in North America, the variety ‘apples are different, interesting and tasty, even every apple has a card with possible uses, whether to eat it raw, cakes, dehydrated …!) must be ready to take home several pounds of harvest, and is usual to also buy cakes freshly baked with apples or berries ! In short, if you are in Canada at this time of year, this is one thing to do absolutely!

Una delle attivita’ all’inizio della stagione autunnale e’ quella di andare a raccogliere mele, e in mancanza di queste, si puo’ sempre raccogliere lamponi, fragole autunnali, semi di girasole, peperoni e zucche! Naturalmente la disponibilita’ varia da anno in anno, dato che il raccolto varia dalle condizioni atmosferiche che ci sono state nei mesi precedenti. Ma in tutti casi molti di questi posti hanno attivita; da fare per i piu’ piccoli, come un piccolo zoo di lama e caprette, avennture da fare sulle balle di fieno, o per i piu’ avventurosi c’e’ la possibilita’ di fare un labirinto nel mais risolvendo degli indovinelli! Comunque di solito ci si prede su un fine settimana e si va in compagna, ci sono diversi posti che offrono di fare raccolta di mele ( e qui siamo in nord America, le varieta’ di mele sono diverse, interessanti e gustose, addirittura ogni mela ha una scheda con i possibili utilizzi, se da mangiare a crudo, per torte, disidratate…!) Bisogna essere pronti a portare a casa diversi Kg di raccolto, e di solito e’ possibile anche comprare Torte di mele o bacche appena sfornate! Insomma, se siete in Canada in questo periodo, e’ una cosa da fare assolutamente!

Snow Tubing: l’aquafun sulla neve! [en]

Non sono una montanara, dunque qualsiasi cosa si faccia con colline e neve per me sono delle rivelazioni!

a pochi Km a nord di Toronto (ma non solo) ci sono delle colline che in inverno sono adibite a Snow Tubing, ovvero, monti su delle ciambelle giganti gonfiate ad aria, e ti butti giu per la collina innevata! Potete vedere un video qui. Il divertimento e’ assicurato, soprattutto quando c’e’ poca gente e viene consentito di buttarsi giu’ in gruppo con slancio rotatorio che prosegue per tutta la discesa! Lo consiglio vivamente a chiunque ne abbia l’occasione, un solo consiglio, vestitevi bene e concedetevi una pausa allo chalet con bevanda calda ogni 2- 3 giri!
